Usage

'이거는, 그거는, 저거는' are demonstrative pronouns used to indicate objects based on their proximity to the speaker and listener. By attaching 'Noun-이에요/예요' to these pronouns, you can identify what an object is.

(This) - Used when the object is near the speaker.
(That) - Used when the object is near the listener.
(That over there) - Used when the object is far from both the speaker and listener.

Example Conversation

이거는 (this)

Situation: An apple is next to Miso but far from Youngjun.

  • Miso:
    What is this?
  • Youngjun:
    That is an apple.

Miso uses '이거는' because the apple is close to her.

Youngjun uses '그거는' because the apple is farther from him.

그거는 (that)

Situation: The apple is far from Miso but close to Youngjun.

  • Miso:
    What is that?
  • Youngjun:
    That is an apple.

Here, Miso uses '그거는' because the apple is close to Youngjun.

Miso uses '그거는' because the apple is farther from her.

저거는 (that over there)

Situation: The apple is far from both Miso and Youngjun.

  • Miso:
    What is that over there?
  • Youngjun:
That over there is an apple.

Here, Miso and Youngjun use '저거는' because the apple is far from them.

To summarize:

  • Use 이거는 when the object is close to the speaker.
(This is an apple.)

  • Use 그거는 when the object is close to the listener.
(That is an apple.)

  • Use 저거는 when the object is far from both the speaker and listener.
(That over there is an apple.)
